Hi folks. Tried looking to see if this has been talked about and could not find anything.
Appologies before hand, am a bit of a trekkie fan haha
Could a phaser be made?
A few years back when reading about laser tech i came across a site that went on to say that uv lasers and lasers of lower wavelength can ionise the air molocules allowing for a conductive path to be created along the beam from which a high voltage can then travel along. Only thing that i would imagine is that the laser output would need to be high resulting in severe burning to the target before any voltage has been introduced to stun or kill.
Upon further searching i was led to a company that seemed to be on the ball about it and makes such a system for security in buildings to stun intruders, nothing about killing tho but pretty sure it has been looked at in one of there "utility rooms" lol.
So back to phasers then, could maybe a short range device be made using a less powerfull laser but then would ionisation take longer to reach a conductive stage, air likes to move so path stability may come into question.

You may find this interesting:
But I don't know about recent developments in weaponizing something like this.

But why in "invisible lasers"??

@ Mathemagical. Yep, something along those lines. As i have been looking around it seems there is much talk about this idea but no Builds of it yet. I did come accoss a hand held tesla coil during my investigating spree. kinda off topic but kinda on topic for its additional uses such as uv laser to guide tesla's load, no pun intended.
@Arayan. As in why invisible lasers are needed or in as why this thread?. Well uv light has good ionization properties and uv light is invisible .

Yep. I know the feeling. I have been building a teslacoil over the last few years now. Lol sloooowwww side project. Finished the plex glass housing, prim and sec coil > (hand winding is a long time so i suggest some soothing music for that part lol). Also finished my Leyden jars. Power supply comes from a neon invertor and ignition coil just need to make the spark gap and finish off some feedback isolators. When i ever get around to finishing it, it should be around 3' high so not so portable.

that hand winding does take forever
