My rod off ePrey was supplied with both ends already polished and mirrored (dichroic silvering)on both ends.
Its downfall was multible firings without allowing enough time for cooling, it may have been an imperfection but after several thousand firings and a few weeks or so it shattered. I have never heard of this happening to the rod, but have experinced flash lamp failure several times!

My Neodymium rod came ready perfectly polished and both ends fully mirrored to high specification. The mirror finish looks as if it is dichroic.

Since lasers are inherently inefficient at converting electrical energy to light energy,
it would require a lot of power to generate 1MW of light output.
Flashlamp based NDYag systems may have efficiencies (at best) of 5%.
Diode pulsed systems can boast efficiencies of up to 10%.
I work on NDYag systems that produce 10 watts of power using a flashlamp.
These systems require a power supply that produces up to 800 volts and 300 amps for the
10 watts of light energy that is finally produced. The power supply for these systems weighs
about 40 lbs.
So the claim that someone has produced a 1MW hand held laser using batteries is
highly unbelieveable. It would certainly require a lot of incoming juice to create
an energy output of that magnitude.

It uses an SSY-1 (surplus rangefinder for a tank). It does somewhere between 10kW and 100kW peak (not quite the megawatt he claims), but keep in mind this is only for a few tens of microseconds. Pulsed lasers are measured in JOULES, not watts. It takes roughly 100J of input and outputs 1J. He only said megawatt because he's trying to impress people, and this seems to be his only goal in life. He only posts in threads that are about him.

YAGs are EXTREMELY dangerous. The peak output is VERY high, and it is obviously invisible. It is the most ridiculous way of "burning things" I can think of.

I add two movies on this KW range pulse laser gun. I state that is capable of making holes in a can, while my 40W CO2 laser can't.

It's a mistake to measure the power of pulsed lasers in Watts (Joules is more correct), however if you really want to do a conversion, this object outputs more than 30 KW of power.

BS is hereby called. I'm pretty sure the flashlamp operates at <1000V.

Yes, I'm sorry for these lamps the voltage are usually from 1 to 3 KV...
